Ankiel hit that home run on opening night to beat the Rangers. If I am not mistaken, going into tonight he has struck out every single at bat but one since then.

The highlight of the year for my Astros was game one. It was appropriate that they led the AL on April 1st. The Astros did quickly live up to their potential and will finish with the worst record.
With 3 games to play the Rangers are in a battle with Tampa and Cleveland for the wild card spots. It's going to be a good last weekend of regular season baseball for the few of us who still care about baseball.
It would be a golden opportunity this weekend to see the Yankees in person. Probably won't have much competition for the best seats. Sunday's game may be kinda cool. The talk is Rivera may play center field late in the game, then switch to pitcher for the last inning.

I had these Stros at 49 wins at the beginning of the season (thought about 53 or 54 for our predictions contest but went historic), and these Stros barely beat it. They looked like they were going to crush it when they were 51-96, but 12 in a row and they might take 1 from Yanks. Awesome! I hope Mariano gets to play CF and hit.
Back in 2011 I was attending a training series in Houston and we stayed at the Hilton Americas, I think it's called. The one a couple of blocks from the ballpark. Everyday they had free Astros' tix for the asking at the front desk. Not too many takers. Then as the weeks rolled on, long about late July into August, they were leaving a chocolate mint and Astros' tix on your pillow. If ever there was a case of "can't give tickets away," that was it.
That was also the time I won Final Four tickets in a free-throw shooting contest as part of the FF Expo held in that civic center connected to the hotel. That was the Duke-Kentucky and Va. Commonwealth-Butler FF.
or....was that the 2012 FF?
2011 MBB Final Four was in Houston. 2012 in New Orleans.
Today is the last game of the regular season. The Indians, Rays, and Rangers are playing for the 2 final AL playoff spots. You can watch all games free today on mlb.tv. Indians and Rays are leading but Rangers are trailing 1-0 in the third.
Rangers up 2-1 in 6th when Hamilton hits a game tying RBI
Rangers have a 2 out rally in the bottom of 6th to back up 3-2 in bottom of 6th
Bottom of 7th now. Rangers still up. (Cleveland takes care of business by winning 10 in a row and 15 out of 17 to get the 1st WCard Spot)
Rangers win. Hamilton didn't
Tampa Bay in Arlington tomorrow for a WC playoff game.
My Cardinals finish tied for the best record in MLB with Boston.
Another great season to be a Cardinals fan. No matter what happens from here on out, I have thoroughly enjoyed this season. Lots of key injuries, and lots of home-grown talent coming up to fill the gap and do it in outstanding fashion. Didn't even have a second baseman to start the season, plugged in a player from within the organization who agreed to learn the position to get some at-bats, and now you have... Matt Carpenter.
Really fun season for Cardinal Nation.
