Suggest a lake for boating vacation

Last summer we spent a week on Lake Hamilton in Arkansas. It was the best vacation we ever took and the kids have asked that we do a similar trip this year.

I will be pulling the boat and would like to keep the drive under 6 hrs. We ski, so i dont want a lake with stumps ie Claiborne or toledo etc.

Want a condo with slip and restrants/bars on the water.

Anyone have an opion on Lake Conroe in TX?
    Thanks!

Hamilton or DeGray are both very nice.

Caney is a great spot, but they don't have the food and beverages on the lake.

Guis, appreciate the suggestions but i am not pulling a boat to arizona or nevada

Md, my wife wants to get out of la and we did hamilton last year. I tried talking her into staying in LA because north la has some beautiful lakes but LA isnt a vacation to her

I just want to make sure there are more thsn one "bait stand" on the water where ever we go.

    Table Rock.

Save the gas by not pulling a boat and just rent one up there.

We passed by degray last summer and it appears not as developed (which is a good thing). However, the restraunts, hangouts etc are nice when on this type of vacation.

Almost every weekend you will find my boat on a small, not crowded lake in NE LA. On vacation we look for more stuff to do.

For what you are describing, it is hard to beat Hamilton.

Used to have jumping off Ark. 7 South bridge. Then they built a new bridge and you can't climb to the top from the water.

We loved hamilton and may end up back there. We are told that conroe' water level is low now causing issues parking the boat at the condo/houses. Evidently there are very few floating docks and you need a ladder to get out of your boat.

How about Lake Ouachita? I know the lake is beautiful but know nothing about lodges (or condos) and restraurants. The times I've been we've always stayed in the campgrounds.

I dont know if ouachita has the extras hamilton offers. Ouachita is surrounded by the ouachita national forrest. Hamilton is on the edge of hot springs.

Re: Suggest a lake for boating vacation

Lake Ouachita was formed by the Corps of Engineers for power generation . . . and AFTER AP&L (Entergy) built Lakes Catherine and Hamilton first, damming up the Ouachita River. Anytime a landowner on those two lakes want to make dock improvements they must get permission from Entergy. Entergy owns the land under the lakes and landowners on the shores own that property. Lake Ouachita is essentially federal property all the way around (as stated above.) Therefore any commercial ventures must get permission from the feds on that lake. The Tri-Lakes is a beautiful recreational area.
