    C-USA Spring Meetings

    Monday, May 13 - Wednesday, May 15 in Destin, Fla.

    All the athletic directors, senior women's administrators, faculty advisors, head football coaches, head MBB coaches, and head WBB coaches are there.

    Rice HC David Bailiff has been named coaches' chair, and UAB's AD Brian Mackin has been named AD chair.

    Expansion is not on the agenda.

    Currently only the top 12 basketball teams will qualify for the C-USA Tournament, but the coaches are advocating for all 16 teams to participate.

    Any formal decisions will be made Wednesday morning.

    I disagree.

    I think C-USA should use the 16-team model of Big East basketball tournament as we knew it.
    - All 16 teams participate in the tournament.
    - The bottom half play in the first round.
    - Seeds 5-8 get a bye and open in the second round.
    - Seeds 1-4 get two byes to open in the quarterfinals.
    - 15 games in 5 days.

    Why I don't like cutting it off at 12 qualifiers:
    - Uncertainty will have a negative effect on the fans as far as making plans and expenses go.
    - Disincentivizes fans of schools with only one qualifier (men's or women's) to attend.
    - MBB fans can't support their school's WBB team if they don't qualify, and vice versa.
    - None of the players would want to be left out of the tournament.

    They make more money if everyone is there. Team/fans/band/cheer/etc will be coming from all over.

    Looking at 2014, the tournament will be in UTEP. I would like them go to a neutral site, maybe Dallas (American Airlines) or Frisco (Dr Pepper Arena). It's a big city with a big airport.

    C-USA commissioner Britt Banowsky has floated the idea of expanding from 14 to to 16 schools in 2014. The schools most often mentioned as expansion candidates include Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas State of the Sun Belt Conference and James Madison of the Colonial Athletic Association.
    ULM?

It's kinda like nobody around here knows the difference between Central, Eastern, and Western Michigan. Also, ULM's football team received more national attention last year than ULL's football team has in their entire history. That may have something to do with it, too.

    Totally agree. And like QNG said it's sends more money to the host city which sends a nice message about our conference. We want this tournament to be as attractive as possible for future host sites.

    I'm talking about their academic status, not their nicknames.

    In reality:
    WMU > CMU > EMU
    ULL > ULM

    But to most people:
    WMU = CMU = EMU
    ULL = ULM

    I would like to see them alternate between East & West anually utilizing only big city venues, with great entertainment & airports. Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Washington D.C. or Nashville is for the East and Houston, New Orleans, Dallas or San Antonio for the West.

    I would rather find a location and stick there. The problem with Nashville, New Orleans, and Atlanta are you might be second fiddle to the SEC. It can work in those cities because they can support both but I would rather find a city we can make our own. I like Houston and Dallas (even though the Big XII could go back to Dallas at some point). I kind of like Orlando even though I do believe if you go to Florida then you should find a beach city such as Miami, Tampa, or Jacksonville.
