THANKS for posting that! Going to set it now so I don't miss it.
TD, the score won't change, I think the most disappointing thing to come out is how many chances our Bulldogs had to WIN the game outright, even with us chasing Johnny F all over the field.
So tune in about 9:30, cause the first 90 minutes SUCK!
The game is going to be shown 3 times on ESPNU:
Sunday, July 21st: 9:00 pm Eastern / 8:00 pm Central
Tuesday, July 23rd: 5:00 am Eastern / 4:00 am Central
Monday, July 29th: 6:00 am Eastern / 5:00 am Central
just set my DVR then will fast forward until it gets good!
Hell of a ball game even the second time through. The fumble that wasn't a fumble. The blocked extra point. The missed two points. Just as gut wrenching today as it was then.
Thought for sure we would go to Patton on that last 2-pt try. Nope! Threw it toward Stuart again. Same result.... Helluva a game.
I'll never understand that call. We had at least 3 players on that field that were better options than Stuart. Furthermore, the "fade route" is a low percentage pass play anyway. So what do we do? We call a low percentage fade route in the end zone to be thrown to our 4th or 5th best receiver. :bigcry:
It was. And Cameron took responsibility for it, not the coaches...
But I think (not sure) that Cameron made most of the decisions to run or pass at the line of scrimmage. I think there was usually a run and a pass play called for each snap, and Cameron would always make the decision to pass or run. Cameron made a lot of great decisions, but I think he made two very poor decisions. This one and his misread on the last play of the Utah State game when he handed the ball off for a run instead of throwing it.
My only problem with Coach Dykes was that he rarely took responsibility for mistakes. He put them on player execution. I think the coaches should always give the players credit for successes, but the coaches should always take the blame for failures.
On a 2-point play, or on 4th down, you have ONE crack at it. The fade route, and others like it, or low % plays. I would call some version of the pass-run option, every time, mixing it up by, sometimes moving the whole pocket, right or left, having the QB, play-action and do a naked bootleg, but still with a pass-run option, and multiple targets, or some other variations. The bootleg when Colby literally walked in on the first 2-pt try illustrates the possibilities of such a scheme.
