No, he had a legitimate complaint about the fans leaving. He didn't blame the loss on that, he just made a comment out of frustration. The same frustration that we all felt about that. It was blown out of proportion. I agreed with him.Originally Posted by maddawg
He made the comment twice. Had he made it just the one time in the postgame, it would have been out of frustration (ignorance), but he had a full 30 to 45 to calm down and act like an FBS coach. After the cooling off period, he continued to rake the fans over the coals.
He NEVER took the blame for the poor play calling in the first half of that game, but dissed those fans who left because he and his staff didn't show up for the first half.

It was such a faux pas that BVD had to go on the post game show and apologize.
I heard on the post game show leaving the stadium and yelled "YES!". It wasn't right for him to blame the loss on it, but I was glad someone FINALLY said it to Tech fans. It wasn't meant for most of us on here that stayed for the entire game. It was meant for those exiting at halftime and the 3rd quarter. If you should know ONE thing about a Tech game, it is you never ever leave until the end. See us against Okie State in the same stadium. Fans need to be called out on it.
That's the problem. The problem wasn't the Tech fans. Tech fans were the ones who stayed. The ones who left were the casual Shreveporters and others from surrounding areas. After having been here for a couple of years, Dykes should have known his fan base better than that. We all get pissed when attendees leave the games early, but as has been stated, they are not true Tech fans.
All the more reason not to miss him.

i was hoping the second time around the refs would hold their whistle on that goal line fumble, but they still blew it way too early. and we still couldn't stop johnny on 3rd and forever. frustrating game, but an impressive display by j. football and general patton.

I think many of those who left early were those who left because it was so late at night (game ended at 12:45 AM), and they either had kids to put to bed or had a long drive home. You can't blame people for that.
I saw many leave before halftime.
By then it was bedtime and we were getting KILLED.
Dykes and Franklin being unprepared costs us a great opportunity to market to casual fans that night.
