The ATO fire happened in the summer, at the time ATO owned an old Hotel on South Bonner.
The Pike House burned July 4, 1976 when it was over near the Sig and Sigma Chi houses. Then again last year...
Must have been one helluva bicentennial celebration!

The Pikes were setting off some pretty serious fireworks on the Fourth. I watched burning embers rolling down the still unfinished roof of the new house. Also, wasn't this the frat that accidentally discharged a gun and shot someone a couple years ago?
Fireworks should be banned. They are dangerous....and they are made in China anyway. Stop helping that trade imbalance.

My aunt was a Tech student (77-81) when the ATO house burned down, so it wasn't the late-80s. I remember as a kid back in the early/mid-80s going to visit her (she stayed in Ruston after graduating) and she would point out where the house used to be and how it happened.
A fraternity house on California, just southwest of Tech burned around that same time. I might be wrong but I think it was Alpha Gamma Rho.
I think I remember SAE was out towards Tech South campus, and I think I remember hearing about a fire a few years ago, now that you mention it.
Wasn't it due to all the really smart people overloading the electrical system with high powered computers running MUD and Warcraft?
I heard that the guy whose room started the fire, was using his dorm as a computer repair shop. Had too many computers plugged into too many power strips and *poof*.
I could be wrong.
You are wrong, it was faulty/old wiring though Tech blamed it on the student overloading the plug (it wasn't) so they wouldn't be liable.
