    Thumbs Up 2013 Forbes College Rankings

    This year Louisiana Tech moved up to No. 471 overall (from No. 503 last year) and came in at No. 188 (No. 187 last year) in the research universities category. Tech is also ranked No. 113 in the South.

    The Forbes rankings have always been very favorable to the private liberal arts colleges.

    You can't fairly compare a liberal arts college to a research university with the same metrics, and that's why USN&WR and others separate the different types of schools with the Carnegie classifications.
