    Luke looked good

I have been lukewarm about Luke McCown over time. He shows flashes of absolute brilliance making a throw that makes you go "wow!" then follows it up with a bonehead decision. His inconsistency is the root of my concern, and the reason I have been critical of him when he was a Dawg, and have my doubts he is the right guy to back up Brees. But, he did shine last night for the Saints. Had the one bad throw, a pick, when he didn't read the LB dropping back into coverage. But, other than that he looked really, really good last night. Just a preseason game, yeah, but he looked like he knew what he was doing. Tim Brando was showing lots of love for Luke during the telecast. Well done, Luke!

Got to watch him in person last night. He still throws a beautiful spiral.

Now all Luke needs is for Drew to take a little too much of that nighttime help-you-sleep cold medicine he endorses and oversleep and miss a few games.

    RISING

Luke McCown. The New Orleans backup quarterback had a productive outing. He’s competing with Seneca Wallace for the backup job behind Drew Brees. Wallace has been slowed by injury. McCown has used his opportunity to put some distance between himself and Wallace.

Based on performance, keeping Luke and that Griffin kid, and releasing Wallace, was a no-brainer. Happy for Luke.
