I'm considering applying to one of the 3 open zoning boards in my area, this would be my first foray into government/politics anyone have advice/comments?

Stay away from sleazy motels.
In fact, seriously, change your FB page that everyone knows to a new name and let them all know, then create a new FB page and don't "friend" it or tie it to your FB page with all the Tech stuff. I'm sure it'll probably come out anyway, but no sense in mixing your personal information with the political.
I envy you. I always had political ambitions but married someone (the first time) who wasn't very responsible with our money, and, in fact, filed for divorce when I created my own "main" account so that I could get control, and I've been fighting the debt ever since, and now with my illness can't see the debt ever disappearing. Oh. And I have a few skeletons that continue to rattle around in the closet every now and again.
My skeletons fight each other for space in the closet. 'nuff said .
No campaign it's a volunteer position assigned by City-Parish Council, just a way to dabble my toes and start making some connections. I'm not worried about what I've said about ULL, nothing I've said is untrue and I have great respect for what they've done, not always how they've done it and the attitudes of some of their fans but I find Lafayette is no where near as tied in to ULL as Tech-Ruston.
Serving in this type position is a civic duty. If more people served out of duty inistead of sticking their nose in the trough we'd be in much better shape. Congratulations and thanks for considering this.
