Good for Florida Atlantic.
I think this could be something good for us to do, too.

ULM did this last year.
ULM did the exchange with any college shirt and you got a choice of 3 ULM shirts. Lots of people did it. I think it was actually a really good idea especially for schools like us, FAU, etc., that have to compete with students constantly wearing other college gear yet attending or being an alum of another institution. I wish I had the money to just hand out Tech shirts when I see people wearing other schools crap on campus.
It is a great idea, and as I remember, it was discussed on BB&B at least 5 years ago or more as something Tech should do.
Yes, we did discuss it. It is a great idea! I still think we should bring the Regal Blues and maybe a pep band to a lot of the towns between the Texas a Mississippi lines - play a few tunes downtown and have the Regal Blues do the T-Shirt exchange. Advertise it all across Louisiana. You would get people in all these downtowns.
UTA does this.
To be completely honest, I'm not sure how I really feel about this, as it pertains to TECH.
WE don't have this "issue" as much as some of our neighbors and small-time schools like say, UTA, currently have. Do we have some folks that show up in another school's garb? Yes, but from I've noticed, it's a VERY small number, and most who do are like "first timers" at a Tech event, or they come with a school group, or Aint Susie give 'em free tickets and they had nothin' else to do.
Instead of a huge, organized, old timey "Record Stomp" type of event, maybe somebody just has the shirts and spots Johnny Feaux Tigger and says, hey bud, trade with ya...and let that be it.
Calling attention to this as a "problem" seems to not really fit Louisiana Tech. Some of y'all will disagree no doubt, but I invite you to spend a little time in Monroe. We have NO problem compared to Fun"reaux"
I agree with you as to the state Tech athletics are in now, but when we first brought this up, we did have the problem. It was about the time we got the "next time wear blue" campaign going. Once that took off, this problem quickly diminished for us. I can't see us doing it now because too many free loaders would bring other school shirts that family members have handed down to my kids or given as presents and score me, um, I mean them several new Tech shirts.
The problem isn't people wearing other schools' stuff to our ball games.
The problems are the students walking around campus and going to class in other school's gear and driving around in their cars with a Tech student parking sticker with another school's license plate or another school's sticker on their window. This is still a very big problem at Tech.
NT started doing this when Villareal came onboard as AD. Has really made an impact as far a spromoting school spirit around Denton. Still going to see a few whorns and aggie shirts, but much more green now
Well, I suspect in most cases, the cars that students are driving belong to their parents so the student doesn't really have much authority in choosing a license plate. Now, I'll grant you the sticker to a certain degree depending on the student. I know if I had been able to have a car in college, it would have been my parents' decision as to what was on the windows or anywhere else on the vehicle.
Technically wearing other school's gear is not the problem. It is a symptom of the problem. The problem is not getting the allegiance of students. You can't solve that only with a t-shirt exchange. It takes a concentrated effort to help expose students to the benefits of supporting your university.
I think it is a waste of time to only worry about t-shirts. They do not define fanhood. On every campus there is someone wearing a t-shirt of another university. Some people have other shirts because of "fashion." Others may keep shirts from places they have been or have friends that go there. Some may simply like the name or the mascot. As long as they put their university before any other university then there is no issue with that.
