I think ACT is up from 24.1. That is a .6 increase. If we do that again, we will match or exceed Baton Rouge.

That is correct. I think the ACT score is the big story here.

LSU's average ACT was 25.3 last year. They didn't report their 2013 average ACT in their press release this year.

    ULL's average ACT is 23.1.

I'm not finding any ACT reports for UNO, ULM, NWST, LSUS, or Grambling yet.

I'm a little confused as to how they manage to get a higher GPA student in the door. I am confident that we graduate a far higher caliber though.

They have the resources to offer more perks to the top students, premium housing in particular.

Its a lot like athletic recruiting. The outstanding students are recruited and scholarships and perks are used to attract those plus students. Presidental Scholars are the 5 Star students and everybody is competing for those kids.

A 20 percent jump in freshman enrollment is huge as well. I wonder how much this has to do with our efforts in Shreveport?

My cousin lives here in Memphis area and is now a freshman at Louisiana Tech. She scored a 33 on her ACT and had her choice of colleges giving her full rides. She choose Louisiana Tech before I even knew she was considering it. Her mom, an NLU graduate, talked her into visiting the campus while on a trip to see Grandma in El Dorado.

She fell in love with our school almost immediately. And I was blown away by her choice.

We are a VERY well kept secret. I knew I wanted to come here since my junior year of HS, but there weren't too many brochures sent to try and lure me in either.

Louisiana Tech president Dr. Les Guice spoke to the Monroe Rotary Club Thursday luncheon at the West Monroe Convention Center. Guice released first time freshmen numbers for 2013. The average ACT composite scores are 24.7, about 2.5% higher than last year's 24.1 average. And, first-time freshman enrollment is 1,552 (up 18.7% from 2012.) . Here is a short video on Guice's comments on those numbers. Rotary member Jeff Hawley hosted several Tech alums, including myself, Dr. Jarrell, West Monroe Cricket magnate Jack Armstrong. Here's a short video of his speech.
