Over the weekend the old, large live-oak in front of Howard (bookstore side)broke up. What a loss!
We have lost many trees around the campus over the past few years and have several that are in bad shape and should be removed. Tech really has nothing much to distinguish its campus other than a tree canopy and nice grounds. Both have long been neglected and are in a rather shabby state - IMO.
I would like to see Tech get the campus ready for tree planting before winter by identifying where we need trees and what type. Between now and the first of 2014 remove the problem trees. Plant in January / February of 2014.
We need a tree fund established at the Foundation to support the project now and into the future. I plan on contacting the Foundation office on Monday to get the ball rolling. Hope other alumni care about our campus and will want to help out.
