SEC deals blow to Banowky's plans

    http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bask...me-sources-say

Banowky has been pushing for the C-USA Basketball Tournament to be played in Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, but the SEC has now locked up Bridgestone Arena for nine conference tournaments between 2015 and 2025.

And Nashville's Bridgestone Arena will host the SEC WBB Tournament when the men play elsewhere in 2018, 2022, and 2026.

For C-USA to host the basketball tournament in Nashville, it looks like Banowsky has to either play the tournament a week earlier or play in a different venue while being overshadowed by the SEC tournament. Neither situation is ideal.

Time to look at a different city. Personally, I would like it in the DFW area. It's an easy drive from LR to Dallas.

That place is awesome, would have been a phenomenal arena. Hate we missed out on that.

Dr. Pepper arena probably isn't large enough for the CUSA Tourney and the schools in the East would also want a game closer to them. Just think if UTEP, UNT, UTSA, Tech & USM are there. Would definately need more seats.

The only place in Texas I ever see C-USA hosting a basketball tournament is El Paso. There's not nearly enough basketball fan support in DFW, Houston, or San Antonio to support it. The same goes for Florida.

C-USA has invested heavily in DFW and South Florida with bowl and classic football games.

The C-USA baseball tournament will probably flip back and forth between Houston and Mississippi.

I expect the next C-USA basketball tournament out East (or in El Paso) where there is much more basketball support. I think Nashville is the perfect location, but it looks like Nashville won't work unless they move the tournament up a week. If not, I'm looking at either Charlotte or Norfolk. Maybe Birmingham.

As a Tech fan, I selfishly support DFW. It'll be harder for me to attend the tourney if it's on the east coast.

I'm with Dwayne (though I rarely admit it) regarding Birmingham that is.

Re: SEC deals blow to Banowky's plans

They could always try Memphis or Atlanta.

I'd selfishly vote for DFW, too (of course). None of them are as vested in basketball as the eastern schools (except UTEP) but we do have 4 teams in the state + Tech nearby. It may not draw like it would in Nashville, but it wouldn't be like a late period WAC tournament either. Especially not in the right sized venue (like Dr Pepper).
