Assuming you are a fan and not a university official, you are free to use "Dawgs." The 90% of our fan base can continue to use it as well. The directive comes from the university communications office (not Walsh) and is directed at official university releases, based on their interpretation of the trademark issue.

So why is this even necessary....Georgia has "Bulldogs" trademarked too, so how is that any different?

Why do our game notes say that you are a "Bad 'Dog" if you use Dawgs? That's totally unnecessary and 100% the doing of our SID. There is absolutely no reason to tell other people not to use the term that everybody commonly uses for the abbreviation of our nickname. I was also told that Georgia's BS only applies to football so Dunkin' Dawgs should be perfectly acceptable for basketball. Washington, Mississippi State, and teams all across the country are still using Dawgs. If Georgia has our admin too scared to use Dawgs, then fine. Our SID should call us by our full nickname Bulldogs. It is unnecessary to insult us by continually referring to us as yankee or Cali 'Dogs like Fresno State. We are Bulldogs, not 'Dogs.

Dawg06 is right. The whole LA Tech is stupid. The Dogs deal is moronic. Why on earth why Walsh or whoever else can't grasp this fact is beyond me. Anyone who doesn't recognize such simple points needs to swallow their pride. They look weak and immature.

Guys, LA Tech has had "DAWGS" printed on jerseys, the lip of their football helmets, and more.

Game notes may have their silly sayings ("bad dog"), but nobody can stop fans from saying "Dawgs" if they want. Other questions regarding the use of "Dawgs" should be directed to Dave Guerin of University Communications. That office is the one from which the directive came. I didn't say their interpretation was accurate, just that it is what it is.

BTW, I'm a lifelong Southerner and I've never considered "'Dogs" to be a "yankee" or "Cali" pronunciation.
