After 40 years, Dempsey's record finally falls. Surprised no mention of that yet here.
End of first half kick -- usually kicks that long are end of the game.

Hate to see a Saint lose the record, but glad it was my fantasy kicker!!!
What surprised me is that it was in December -
Very cold air
It was bound to happened sooner or later
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
Let Prater try it at 5 feet below sea level....then get back to us on it.
Every record tying or record setting FG since Dempsey's has been kicked in Denver, a mile above sea level. Plus, Dempsey only had half a foot.
But, it was a hell of a kick by Prater. The record had to fall sometime.
And it was damn cold...
Had to be like kicking a rock
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
I read that Dempsey's record was beaten by half a foot.
It took me a second and then I laughed.
At the time of Dempsey's kick, the previous NFL record was 56 yds. By a kicker named Bert Registrar, or something like that, of the old Baltimore Colts, I think. Probably butchered the man's name, but I'm doing this from a failing memory. Point is, Dempsey didn't just break the record of the time, he smashed it by 7 yards.
