Rummel executed a perfect on-side kick, a pooch kick about 10 yards behind the Byrd front line. Called "catcher interference." HUGE momentum swing.
On a rare throw and catch for Byrd, they had an ineligible man downfield, committing offensive pass interference, a pick play, that resulted in a 3rd down conversion on Byrd's only TD drive of the night. Late in the game, Byrd was penalized for throwing a pass to #51, who caught the ball, on a 4th down try, and made a nice run. Too bad he's not an eligible receiver.
And, I was told, by Rummel fans who had a better angle, the Byrd runner who scored on the first series on the long run, stepped out-of-bounds as he was turning up field. I couldn't see it, and the replays didn't show where his feet were.
The refs sucked. And in game of evenly matched teams, it often comes down to the zebras' calls.
