I didn't even know he was sick. This is a big loss for the Tech Family.
A sad day for the entire Louisiana Tech family.
A great man to work with, which was my honor to do for 25 years.
Mr. Hilburn was a great mentor. He was one of the best professors I ever had in undergrad and grad school.
This news makes me very sad. He greatly influenced me, and I consider him a special friend.
I met him once when I was at Tech in the 90s. I had to stop in the journalism department for some reason. The guy had no computers in his office -- only a typewriter. I wonder if he ever "upgraded".
In the early 70's (I don't remember the year), I had the privilege to be on a bowling team at Tech with Wiley, F.Jay Taylor and Berry Hinton. Wiley was not a very good bowler, but he was a great team member who always kept things light. I was a new Tech employee who had just recently graduated, so I am not sure how I got put on that team, but it was a great experience to be with three such great people. All are gone now, and all helped make the Tech "family" what it is today.

Like T-MO and many others, I consider Mr. Hilburn as one of the great mentors in my life. R.I.P., Mr. Hilburn.
