If someone from 1950 traveled in time immediately to 2013, they would think the world had turned into hell. But if you live it, and it slowly happens... first Elvis, then KISS, then Madonna, then Insane Clown Possey, then Lady Gaga... each one pushing the envelope further and further then you don't realize how drastic the change has been like our time traveler did. The people in the 50's warning was correct, and our morals decay with time, but it becomes more and more acceptable because it happens so slowly. Generations decay.

Maybe, but they were very fringe. (who were they, btw). My point was that Ed Sullivan would not show Elvis from the waste down because his dancing was too offensive for the majority of Americans. Miley (and Salt n Peppa, etc....) took it a step further and some day sex on stage will be fine.

Well, I suppose it depends on one's perception of the entire thing. I initially thought A&E took a stand against having someone with Phil's views represent them, or at least that they were applying company policy. Saying "nevermind" speaks to their credibility, if indeed their initial decision was based on principle or policy.

But, if one believes A&E's initial decision was based on their perception that the majority of Duck Dynasty viewers felt differently from Robertson, then they found out differently, I guess it wouldn't speak to their credibility. It would demonstrate that they react according to the market, not on principle or policy. (It also would demonstrate that they didn't have a CLUE about the DD audience, which is not likely).

I think that too feeds into the publicity stunt theory.

A company can rarely stand on principle or policy. Lawsuit-happy US ensures this.

I think their moral values were much higher than today's politicians. They actually invoked Divine Providence, a Creator, and God in their writings..... gasp!!!
