Rollerblades were an "in" thing when the seal was brand new. Students skating to class were not an uncommon sight in 95-96.

But everyone learned real quick not to try skating over the seal. Even when dry, those tiles furiously rejected polyurethane wheels.

Could do a combination, remove the tiles, go back with stained concrete center (blue and red) with a bronze ring around it with the tenets... sweeeeet

Well . . . please inform those precious freshman engineers and dorm girls about the hazardous conditions on campus . . . .

Freshmen engineering students probably aren't the best runners to begin with.

Although no longer a freshman, I can attest.

Read this in Dr. Guice's blog: http://guiceblog.latech.edu/2014/09/...l-partnership/

We had several members of the Regents, Supervisors and Legislature on campus Monday to discuss our Capital Outlay plans for next year. We also provided them a brief overview of our new campus master plan and how our capital outlay plans have been impacted by the excellent work of the master planners.

If Guice wants to get Tech's total enrollment to 20K then they need to start building dorms and not more apartments

Apartment-style housing is pretty much a requirement for "top" students.

Dorms? Oh great! now we'll have to rebuild Nielson & Caruthers!

Which, BTW, what an effing waste of space. Green space? Pave it and give us more parking for FB games!

Seems like at one time there was a thought to build a new A.E. Phillips lab school where Caruthers was standing and use the A.E. Phillips site for other purposes. But that's been a while back and was the prior administration.

That Caruthers & Neilson are "green space" for now is almost certainly a temporary situation. I just don't see that location not going to a better use in the not too distant future.

There's your entitlement again ... Tech's campus needs more asphalt like a moose needs a hat rack.

But I agree it's a waste of space. Especially considering there were two serviceable buildings at that location, removed largely because of personal aesthetic tastes.

Tech, like the rest of Ruston, does need new (and more) asphalt.

They were not serviceable. 30+ years of mismanagement killed any chance of them being anything more than eyesores and money pits.

How about the best of both worlds? Grasspave

It was used around Reliant Stadium, the Orange Bowl, and many other applications where a parking lot that isn't used daily can be sodded and it is structurally sound enough for a firetruck. I would love to see this incorporated into the current parking lot around JAS.

Another thing we need on campus is a parking garage. Stop taking up valuable land with parking lots.

I used to think so, too. But then I paid attention to how our students drive, and they suck at it. A parking garage would be the worst. Towing companies will have daily business and insurance rates for the area will go up.

Plus, I don't think Tech would step up with security and doesn't want the liability.
