The boys down south find a way to field a competitive team.

Yea...Coach Simoneaux REALLY cares about how the Bulldogs finish, amirite? How does he still have a job? The baseball team the last few seasons has been an abysmal dumpster fire.

So what if he has a horrible budget. The budget will probably not increase and if it does, it will not be anything significant. He can't get it done with his budget, then time to move on to the next guy to see if the successor can do better. It can't get any worse.

FWIW, if the budget were better, he probably would have already been fired.

I agree. Frankly, it's the one sport for which I don't think we need much of a recruiting budget. Fielding a VERY GOOD Baseball team on a REGULAR basis should be the LEAST of our concerns in North Louisiana/South Arkansas/East Texas/West Mississippi

"Boys 'round here" start swinging a bat and throwing baseballs around shortly after they begin to walk. Really no reasonable explanation for us to be so bad in this sport.

I'm just telling what he says...not that I agree with it.

How much recruiting money do you really need? Shouldn't cost much money to travel since we live in arguably the richest area for baseball talent with Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. Grant it, the budget is low but if our other men's teams can field the talent they do with the low budgets, why can't baseball? I say find a new head coach. He's had plenty of time to prove himself

To add to maddawg's post - since the end of the 2010 season, several individuals who would be potential targets for Tech have been contacted (not necessarily by individuals within our athletic department) to gauge their interest if the Tech job opened up. The coaches Tech would want don't have an interest at our current budget levels. The climate that Oakes created around the baseball program, which still exists today, has also contributed to poisoning the waters when it comes to potential new coaches.

We would likely be looking at an assistant from a Sun Belt or Southland school as our likely next coach. That might even be a stretch. That lack of a budget has almost certainly saved Sim's job.

UL Lafayette's recruiting budget is more than three times Tech's recruiting budget (at least it was a couple of years ago). To answer the question "how much recruiting money do you really need" or a budget in general? It takes enough to be able to convince the type of coach you are targeting that he will have enough resources to be successful.

Why would any booster(s) open their wallets when there's no appearance of interest or commitment from the administration?

    Serious question --

Do any other entertainment businesses in the world, besides Tech's Athletic Dept, routinely blame the customers when the product stinks?
