Shreveport Mayor: We still need LaTech-LSUS merger.

He was in favor of the merger last go round, but it wasn't Baton Rouge that killed the merger. It was three Shreveport-Bossier politicians who killed it: Robert Adley, Barrow Peacock, and Greg Tarver. The legislature wasn't gonna pass something like that when the NWLA delegation was not in agreement on it.

Adley is a Tech grad who feared his alma mater could potentially diminish the power of his L-S-U Tigahs if the merger went through.

Peacock's biggest boosters were LSU Ag folks who feared that they would be more susceptible to being taken over by the flagship if the merger went through. Well, it didn't work. LSU Ag was taken over by the flagship a few weeks ago.

Tarver probably took a bribe to rally against the merger.

Other than those three in opposition, the vast majority of the NWLA civic and business community supported the merger.

There were a few politicians who were confused and unsure due to the loud opposition of those three.

I've often equated this betrayal attitude to someone I would not trust to do business with.

We agree on most, but I won't go that far. While many of us have been loyal to Tech through thick and thin, Tech has done a TERRIBLE job of nurturing graduates and getting them back in the family. I've mentioned it before, but we lost thousands of potential fans from the late 70s to late 80s because we were not focused on grooming the young fans during those years.

Adley is simply a POS politician. All the Tech education in the world was never going to make him a better person.

What we need to do is to help defeat the asshole in the next election. Adley has got to be about term limited by now. He's been around at least since Roemer was governor, and that was 1988-92. I once emailed his office and asked him to support LTAC and he replied with a very anti Tech response. I would donate to any Tech supporter that runs against him. We can call it the DTD campaign (Ditch the Dick).
