I had actually read that before I posted the question. However, it didn't leave me with much confidence that I understood bitcoins and more importantly the use of them.
I have a friend who now is now in California tell me recently that he knew someone who said they were planning to buy some bitcoins and use them for betting on college football over the internet (I assume that person lives in Nevada). So as I read about the bitcoins I developed the understanding that one way to get started in bitcoins would be to find someone else who already used them and then sell them something or some service in exchange for bitcoin(s) as payment. That sounds simple enough, but I have never heard of anyone using them. And if you had some, it seems that the real value of bitcoins would only exist if establishments such as a grocery store or service station accepted them. A dollar is only worth a dollar (to me) because it will buy me one-dollar's-worth of something, like food or gasoline.
So I guess I'm asking if anyone who has a working knowledge of bitcoins, or actual experience with them, will share some practical information.
