This is how it goes. As maddawg pointed out, it's common for kids to commit as much to a coach as to a program. When the coach leaves (for any reason), it makes sense that the recruit would go, too. This works for us and against us.
I know that! But I still get to be pissed off when the dude steals our best OL recruit from us.

Who did Tech get that he was recruiting for Texas?

    Was it Lonnie Cooper?

Yes. Ironically he is now coaching as a volunteer at nlulm under Richard, but wanted badly to coach at Tech. We never had a spot for him.

I don't know. Probably not anyone that UT really wanted. But we were (rightly, although I'm not sure we had him around long enough for it to make much difference) excited about hiring a guy who had built relationships with coaches and players that we might want to target. That's just how it works.

From what I hear, that's a very good thing.

There's a big difference, Giles was fired from UT. He built a relationship with Eloph on Tech's dime then left for Houston and recruited Eloph there.

Some of your really think he should have backed off of any player he was recruiting while employed by Tech?

There's not much honor in a business that encourages young people and coaches to repeatedly break their word.

Is he supposed to act like he doesn't know him anymore? Or that he no longer wants him to play for him?

We do this, too. You think Tony Franklin erased all the names out of his cell phone when we hired him from MTSU? They presumably paid for at least some of his trips out to the California jucos. Peterson's ties to Wilson are from the Marshall connection. If Duke had been recruiting any d-linemen that we might have a shot at, I bet we're at least making it known that we can find them a spot (if they show any interest).

I'd say the Price Wilson situation is almost exactly the same.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I just hate losing a solid 3 star prospect to a former coach.

I do too, but was it Giles that was recruiting him for the past 12 months or another coach? If it was Giles, I don't have a problem with it. If Baker was recruiting him and then Giles jumps in at the last minute and steals him, that's wrong, imo.

Why? Is there some unwritten code of honor in the coaching fraternity?
