As a player at Louisiana Tech, Weatherspoon helped lead legendary head coach Leon Barmore’s team to the 1988 NCAA Division I national title. She was named the Wade Trophy winner as the nation’s top collegiate player as a senior.
“Lady Techster basketball has a great tradition and a tremendous national reputation,” McClelland said. “The measuring stick for success in women’s basketball at Louisiana Tech is higher than most programs around the country. The University is committed to reviving the competitiveness of the Lady Techsters.”
McClelland said that a national search for Weatherspoon’s successor will begin immediately but that no timetable has been established for hiring her replacement.--University release
