Not sure he'd even talk to Tech, but Bill Brock would be a good choice. He can clearly coach and was a good recruiter at the JC where he was. Think he covets a BCS-level school though.

I think that here at Tech he could be able to recruit some real bigs and would be able to turn the program in the right direction. I would love to have him help develop Whit to her full potential.

Hey, ya never know, maybe I could join him and be an assistant!

I think all of us could get behind that group! By the way, this is the best thread and most useful for thoughts on the WBB section right now.

Fairview has won, what, the last six or seven Class B state championships? They're this decade's Anacoco. Have they produced any collegiate players?

To hijack a bit, but I'd love to see us recruit more players from smaller schools. We've had success with that over the history of the program. Angela Turner (Shady Grove, C), Cheryl Ford (Summerfield, C), and Kendra Neal (Pelican, C) are some that come to mind.

Small school or big, what a lot fail to realize is that back in the glory day there were very few stars or future stars available in the girls game bc just to be honest nobody cared and girls weren't trained. Girls programs weren't funded. Girls coaches were often football coaches or just somebody thrown into that position for a little extra cash. Now-a-days girls are trained like boys. Money is invested and although it isn't near (nor will it likely ever be) the men's game people across the nation do care about it. From what I have seen there are still a LOT of horrible coaches in high school, both large and small schools that don't properly prepare their girls for the next level or have a clue how to prepare a team either due to lack of ability or knowledge. When you do find a real BASKETBALL COACH at a girls program you can usually tell by the consistent success. Overall point... its not as easy as some may think to get those small school or big school superstars and a coach that knows how to put it all together! There are a lot of very good high school coaches that could be great college coaches bc the ones that do it right have to truly DEVELOP players and team concepts and strategies. Coach Barmore... Ruston HS. The coach at AUBURN football was just a little ole high school coach here in Arkansas for the longest. People with truly gifted sports specific minds will be successful at any level with the proper help. That carries over. Any idiot can recruit a bunch of top talent on an AAU team and win. Now thats why you have recruiting coordinators and other people on a college staff.

Great post and I totally agree. I have always believed that you had to be one heck of a coach to have consistent success on the high school level. You don't get to pick and choose your athletes and have to coach what hand you are dealt. If you can win state championships on a consistent basis, you have to have some VERY good coaching skills.

I will add (to your first point) that those girls that we recruited during the glory days had only a handful of choices of programs that would could take them to a National Championship. With the parity that is in the game today, there is a lot more competition and choices.
