SHREVEPORT (AP) – Local radio host and Shreveport Times editorial writer Tim Fletcher broke the news of the upcoming format and program changes to KWKH earlier today on The Tim Fletcher Show.
Mr. Fletcher admitted on the air that the decision by Townsquare Media to reformat the radio station was very sudden, but he understood the purpose once he talked with Tony Taglavore, play-by-play analyst for the Northwestern State Demons and blogger for the radio station.
“I was apprehensive at first to all the changes Tony and Townsquare wanted to make,” Tim Fletcher said on the air. “However, once Tony explained his epiphany to me, I became more jacked up than after my last shot at Regional Urology.”
While some people base business decisions solely on numbers and statistics and market research, Tony Taglavore had a little supernatural help from the great beyond.
“A couple of weeks ago, I was visited by the vision of our recently departed St. Bruce in a dream,” Tony Taglavore said. “St. Bruce looked me in the eyes and said, ‘Thou shalt rattle the Tiger cage.’”
KWKH will continue to be the premier 24/7 sports radio station for the Shreveport-Bossier metro area, according to Tony. However, he added that KWKH will shift its emphasis from the LSU Tigers to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
Effective immediately, KWKH 1130 “The Tiger” will rebrand itself to KWKH 1130 “The Bulldog”. The radio station will be the exclusive home to Louisiana Tech athletics in the Shreveport-Bossier City radio market. The station will air all football, baseball, and basketball games live with the “Voice of the Bulldogs” Dave Nitz.
“This is a great day for Tech athletics,” said Tommy McClelland, Louisiana Tech Athletic Director. “It’s a real game changer to have the biggest sports radio station in the Shreveport market on our side.”
“While this is a nice step for Tech, that school won’t really matter to people in Shreveport or north Louisiana until they play ULM in football,” ULM AD Brian Wickstrom replied at a press conference in Monroe two hours ago.
When asked for comment on the changes to KWKH and the elimination of LSU sports coverage in Shreveport, LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva commented, “It’s no loss to us. To be honest, I always thought Shreveport and Bossier City were in east Texas anyway.”
In addition to rebranding itself “The Bulldog”, KWKH 1130 AM will air more local programs on weeknights.
Every Wednesday from 6-7:30 PM, KWKH will air Bleed Tech Blue Radio, a program dedicated to everything related to Tech athletics.
A new local program will air every Thursday night from 7-9 called “Player Hater Radio”. The program will focus on hating on everything, and will be hosted by Dawg06, member of the Bulldog Bytes & Barks message board, and Silky Johnson, two-time “Hater of the Year” award winner.
There will be a cleansing ceremony at 6 PM tonight at the 1130 AM radio station in which all LSU paraphernalia inside the station will be removed and burned in a huge bonfire in the parking lot. The Shreveport Fire Station will bring two fire trucks containing holy water blessed by the priests at St. John Berchman’s Catholic Church to spray and cleanse the outside of the station building. The general public is welcome to attend.
