I have seen them twice in concert.....two of the three best concerts I have ever attended. They are only topped by The Rolling Stones concert.

Surely you jest. The Eagles are one of the worst bands ever.
To each his own I guess. Call me nuts but I like guys that can write their own songs, play their own music, and can sing in harmony. Their popularity has stood the test of time. Their best songs were seldom, if ever, played in the mainstream.

Wasn't alive 40 years ago, but back then you had Zeppelin, Floyd, the Who, Sabbath, Rolling Stones, the Clash, Queen, Bowie. So much more to choose from.
Some of those were still going in the 80s (which I was alive for), but you can add in Joy Division, New Order, Jane's Addiction, Pixies, the Smiths, MBV, Stone Roses, Maiden, GNR.
I actually pretty much agree with that list.
