Boyd getting a shot
Former Archbishop Shaw High School and Louisiana Tech strong safety Chad Boyd has had a long road to get back to the football field.
The 5-11, 205 pound safety earned second team All-Western Athletic Conference honors as both a junior and senior at Louisiana Tech, but a shoulder injury and surgery had him on the football shelf last season and no try-outs for NFL teams.
Saturday Boyd worked out for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League and the team came away very impressed with his athleticism and he is fully recovered from the shoulder injury.
Boyd was regarded as one of the best run defenders in the WAC before the injury and his work at cornerback made him a very good “cover” guy from the safety position.
Chad’s father, Byron Boyd, was a former All Gulf South Conference selection for the Nicholls State Colonels in the late 1970’s.
