    Tech Enrollment 2014

So Dr. Guice has stated numerous times that his goal is to increase enrollment at Tech, it's our only way to improve or standings in the higher ed realms.

To achieve our goals, I recognize that we must have appropriate levels of resources, and I have committed a major part of my time and effort to developing those. Growth of our student body will provide important resources for us to expand our faculty and staff, something I believe to be absolutely essential for future competitiveness.
Our students must have the finest faculty, the best facilities, opportunities to engage in great research and experiential learning programs, and support for their physical and mental well-being. Enrollment growth can help us achieve those things.
Looks like he's doing a damn fine job on following through...

Tech could see its highest total of incoming freshman since it raised its admissions requirements significantly in 2012, according to statistics compiled by Tech’s admissions office. That fall, first-time freshman enrollment fell from 1,632 students in 2011 to 1,307 students. The number rose to 1,552 freshmen in 2013. This year, Tech has already admitted more than 3,500 students.
I know admitted does not equal actual enrollment but even if we get half of those admitted it's still a good increase.

What's a typical percentage of students that enroll compared to the total that are admitted?

Under Dr. Guice's direction, Dr. King has had consultants digging through recruitment and retention data to better predict who visits, who's admitted, and who actually enrolls. They also have plans to streamline processes so precious resources are used wisely. Though it's hard to believe this hasn't been done before, it is great to see this administration "gets it!"

Browsing through our 2013-14 CDS, I found:
    - Our 6-year grad rate improved from 48% to 50%.
    - Our freshman to sophomore retention rate improved from 76.5% to 78.64%.

Even though our mean ACT Composite increased from 24.1 to 24.5 (our highest ever), and we increased the ACT Composite of 30-36 group by 2% while decreasing the 18-23 group by 2%:
    - Our ACT Composite 75%tile decreased from 27 to 26. Very strange.
(US News uses the 25/75%tiles, not the mean)

According to US News, at Louisiana Tech in the 2012 academic year, 40.3% of those admitted actually enrolled. If that percentage is typical, the 3,500 admittances should yield approximately 1,410 students, that is less than the 1,552 that enrolled last fall.

According to a report from KTBS, the first-time incoming freshmen enrollment for Fall 2014 could be 15-20% higher compared to Fall 2013. This would put the Fall 2014 freshmen class at 1,785-1,862 compared to 1,552 in Fall 2013.
