    Re: 2014 C-USA Spring Meetings

    Official release:
    http://www.conferenceusa.com/genrel/051414aaa.html

Two years in, and we haven't been awarded any C-USA events.

    Charlotte: 2013 Men's Soccer, 2014 Women's Soccer
    FIU: 2015 Softball
    Florida Atlantic: 2014 Softball
    Middle Tennessee: 2013 Volleyball
    North Texas: 2013 Men's & Women's Cross Country
    Old Dominion: 2014 Women's Tennis, 2014 Men's Soccer, 2015 Men's Tennis
    Rice: 2013 Women's Soccer, 2013 Football (earned), 2014 Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field, 2014 Men's & Women's Cross Country, 2015 Women's Tennis
Southern Miss: 2014 Baseball, 2014 Volleyball
    UAB: 2014 Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field, 2015 Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field, 2015 Men's & Women's Basketball
    UTEP: 2014 Men's & Women's Basketball, 2015 Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field
    Tulsa: 2014 Men's Tennis

Two-year members not hosting any events: Louisiana Tech, Marshall, UTSA

I really thought our team deserved the basketball tournament. A team that finished tied for 8th place and was one-and-done in the tourney shouldn't be awarded the postseason tournament IMO.

I don't think most of our facilities lend themselves to host conference tournaments. Softball, soccer, tennis, track and field, and probably baseball, are too small, or lack seating and support facilities imo. We don't have an indoor track or men's soccer. We could do volleyball, and basketball (off campus), and we could win our way to football.

We have one of the best cross country venues in Louisiana in Lincoln Parish Park that hosted a couple WAC championships.

We hosted WAC baseball, softball, and outdoor track & field championships, but you're probably right that those aren't good enough to host C-USA events.

But this basketball tournament should have been ours.

I forgot about golf. I assume we could handle the golf tournament. I think we will get our shot at the basketball tourney.

    Re: 2014 C-USA Spring Meetings

I can believe that McClelland and company knocked it out of the park. However, there could be other issues beside guarantees and/or a great presentation.

I would like to see how each school voted in the selection of the tournament site. Knowing this would tell us how close we came to getting the bid, and also how the vote split east vs. west and old vs new C-USA members.

In addition to money, geography, and longevity, there's also other things to consider. Although being a charter member of C-USA (1995), UAB has only hosted the conference tournament one time, and that was in 1999. The UAB AD, Brian Mackin, knows the other AD's better than our AD because he has been in the position much longer (>7 years) than has our AD (<1 year). Brian Mackin was an Senior Associate AD at UAB for 5 years before being named AD in February, 2007.

I doubt the information is available, but has the vote been published anywhere?
