Didn't realize he was having cancer treatments. RIP, just a great hitter, one of the nicest swings in the game.
Tony Gwynn was the best hitter of my childhood. I always loved to watch him play the game growing up. Because he made his major-league debut when I was only a few months old, I didn't really get to watch him until later in his career and never realized as a kid how good of an athlete he was when he was younger. I didn't realize until even later that he was a two-sport star. Tony Gwynn is one of the best!
the bold, the beautiful, theprofessor
Terrible news. What a class guy. Was also a great hitter, one of the best in baseball history. Talk about a tough out! he struck out only 400 times in his entire 20-year career. The average major leaguer strikes out that much in just 2 1/2 years. That is beyond incredible.
Only the good die young.....
Truly believe he would have hit the magical .400 if it hadn't been for the strike that year. Best contact hitter during his era, and right there with Williams.
