Sucks that the Mitchams couldn't for see the banning of this chemical back in 1987 when the treaty was signed and try to anticipate. Lord knows how people grew peaches before Methy Bromide...
I'm a ChemEng that often deals with government regs and yes sometimes they are onerous but one thing they rarely are is quick to be enacted, and even less quickly if it affects small business/farms. It's been almost 30 years since the US agreed to stop CH3Br use, Mitcham's short site is killing his orchards, not the EPA.
Science it great and we've achieved awesome things, but some of those compounds we've created have really bad side effects on our environment and aren't worth the price margin and need to be regulated/eliminated.
