    W. Basketball. @LATechWBB Downs Rice, 62-51

A new article has been posted on www.latechsports.com:

LA Tech (17-11, 12-5 C-USA) committed a season-low eight turnovers and held a potent shooting three-point Rice team to only 4-of-25 from beyond the arc in defeating the Owls 62-51 before 2,025 fans at the Thomas Assembly Center Saturday night.

    Discuss it here.

Not many turnovers, tough defense, and 85% from the FT line. A proven formula for winning a lot of games.

    Awesome job Techsters!

Fell down on rebounding, though. We had been making great strides on that and did not have a good night.

I wonder how much the 3 point shooting has to do with offensive rebounds. Long shots seen to produce long rebounds. If the defensive team is crashing the board, they may be too close to get the rebound. The offensive team may have the advantage on a 3 point shot. Does this sound reasonable?

Happened several times last night. And it seemed like Rice was slaping/tipping balls to keep it alive.

And a team that shoots a lot of 3 pointers may have a better feel for where the ball is going to come after a miss. Just guessing.

Yes, rebounding is very important. So, okay...

    minimize turnovers
    play good team defense
shoot 80+% from the FT line
win the battle of the boards
shoot a higher FG% than your opponent
    don't commit silly fouls

are all part of a winning formula! (did I leave anything out? )

    Hope the refs are semi-unbiased?

Yes, that has a lot to do with it. Guards have to be aware of this. I made that comment during the game. We were getting most under the basket.
