They gave us an ultimatum knowing they had plenty of time and teams to get if our deal with the Liberty Bowl did not happen. We never turned it down, just replied that we needed more time. They, not us, screwed the Indy Bowl deal up. We screwed up by not having documentation from the Liberty.

Result is the same. You ended up at home. Playing with yourself.

The equivalent of playing in the New Orleans bowl. Only a half-step below the Independence Bowl.

Spoken out of true envy. NOLA is a destination city for hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world. The city treats the bowl teams very well. We had 40k or so fans last time and I bet nobody would trade it for S-Port!. Or your log cabin in N.LA/S.AR.
Also, the bowl game is about rewarding the team for their hard work. What message did your admin send the the players and coaches by passing on the Indy?

In all seriousness, why did the Liberty bowl fall through? Did they extend an invite?

    Here's how I understand it:

    1. The Liberty Bowl wanted Iowa St.
    2. Iowa St was obligated to go to the Heart of Dallas Bowl
    3. The Liberty Bowl was going to trade Tech to the HOD Bowl for Iowa St.
    4. HOD Bowl wanted Tech because CUSA commissioner started that bowl game.
    4. When NIU made the Orange Bowl game (BCS Selection show Sunday afternoon... after the Indy Bowl's deadline), it knocked every Big 12 team down 1 bowl.... sending Iowa State to the Liberty and Oklahoma St to the HOD Bowl.
    5. Liberty Bowl got who they wanted without having to trade.

    Quick explanation...

Besides us losing out, Northern Illinois qualifying for the Orange bowl messed us up. The 2nd domino fell with OSU getting the Dallas Bowl spot we had been promised and that was our likely destination. Up until the last day, the Liberty had said we were in, but the soon to be Liberty partner Big12 put pressure on them to pick Iowa State. Had our AD gotten a written agreement with the Liberty Bowl instead of a verbal agreement, things might have been different. If you notice, that AD is no longer with us.

Here is an interesting tidbit. The difference in attendance between the Sugar Bowl and the Nola Bowl in 2013 was only 5k. Now no one would ever equate the two in terms of national prestige. However the Nola Bowl is an extremely good fit for our fans. I believe the Cajuns turned down an invite to the Independence Bowl to attend the Nola Bowl. With all that being said, it's time to change up things and attend a different bowl.

So you're implying that you'd be in favor of UL-L having a fair amount of time and opportunity to explore its options. FWIW, we agree. Just get it in writing.

Read the title of this thread thinking USL was going to finally hand out degrees that meant something. Now that would be a major change.

Interesting. I would like to know where you are getting those numbers. According to the ESPN boxscores the attendance for the Sugar Bowl was 70,473 and the attendance for the New Orleans Bowl was 54,728. According to my math that is a difference of over 15k. Maybe you left out a 1 in your post.

Me thinks he is right. Actual butts in the seats reported for one, tickets sold for the other. I went to the Sugar and butts were definitely less than reported...significantly. But let's remember, too, ticket prices were extremely different. Different reporting/counting sources are the reason for the disparity. Sugar didn't want to look bad so they reported tickets distributed.

Aside from the gibberish, let's hope we are not fodder to aid in their return.

I agree that attendance numbers are always skewed, I was just curious to where the 5k difference that he stated came from. One could just as easily say that the 54,728 number was not accurate as well. A ULL poster already touted that there was 40k at the game.
