The line was down to 34 by kick-off, but opened at 38.5 I think. So, we beat the opening line by a TD.

This thead best explains the difference between a Fan and a Supporter. Fans are fickle-- whine when they do not get what they want, turn negative in a heartbeat--quite frankly make me sick. Supporters understand ebb and flo of program. Look for the positive and quickly pull themself out of Negativity-- we cover spread--played well in second half and undertand this is team that trounced Alabama in bowl ( 45 pts). They probably be in national playoff picture. Sokol looks solid, defense looked confused but better in second half (17 points). Supporters do not say negative things about their wives, kids , grandkids and best friends. Fickle fans criticise everything because they are SO much smarter, egotistical and go thru life whining. I am sick of people putting down the program I support and have positive passion for. My recommendation, if you are apathetic -gave up on team- skip football and go straight to Basketball. Get off site with your Negative , down in dump whining attitude-- read quick, everytime I rant like this it fets deleted--

Total agreement! I do think that real supporters can get down and want change, when it is needed. Holtz has not had enough time for us to be able to tell that yet, though. Everyone on here wants the same thing, but you have to pick yourself back up and go again. Good point about the pounding OU gave Alabama.

Oh I like this! I get so tired of the negatives. OU kept their #1 QB in the game the ENTIRE time. I was impressed by our QB hanging in there, rolling left as well as right, and getting zip on the ball to our receivers. As for play calling, Dixon had a hard time getting to the line of scrimmage by running so we threw him some passes and he lowered his head and got yards. USL will not roll over us as they hope. We are going to give them a game and I won't be surprised if we rub their noses in the turf! Go Dogs!!

    Thank The Lord for Dixon.
our first game under Sonny was against GRAMBLING -they almost won-- i was upset. I was in Astrodome when we got beat 73-3. 5 td passes in first PERIOD, ncaa record. We never lost another game . quit being so negative, if we are bad -so be it. But why live life in dump til you have to. horrible attitude, even if its true-which I know its not .

Your differentiation between fan/supporter is a bit simplistic. It's a bit more complex than just "I support Tech, end of sentence." "If you're ever critical of Tech; then you're just a fan."

That said, I'll go with your distinction, and say that some Tech supporters (or fans) are more than just Tech supporters (or fans), they're also fans of the sport of football and enjoy beholding quality football.

Thus, when Tech support (or fandom) meets quality football, it's extremely pleasant; yet quite bitter when the two (Tech loyalty and quality football) are strangers.

It's like going home and eating my mother's cooking. I support my mother, and I like good food. When support of my mother meets a quality meal made by her, the result is most refreshing. However, the fact is, I'm not a fan of green beans; so if my mother cooks a meal with a side of green beans -- though my support for my mother has not waned -- I might voice a minor complaint (or at least, demonstrate a non-verbal disappointment). Oh, I'll eat the entire meal, green beans included -- and I'll appreciate my mother the whole way through -- but I will ask for an audible to be considered next time I'm invited for dinner.

To be sure -- supporter or fan, whatever I may be labeled or may actually be -- I'll partake of any green bean dish Tech has to offer, but I may not swallow without a measure of gag reflex.

Nicely done. Even the goo goo heads can understand that analogy.
