I could see Dooley being in the mix. I could also see SMU barking up a tree called Mack......

My 2nd alma mater hasn't been the same since the death penalty.

Now its almost legal to pay players...what do you know? I guess they were ahead of their time.

June Jones never "fit" SMU because he couldn't bring in the folks he brought in at Hawaii.

I see them going for someone who has HC experience and knows how to work within a private school framework.

Although Mack Brown is an interesting possibility.

Talk about a comedy of errors on the Arizona State deal and then the wheels falling off. Makes me wonder if SMU will just accept being in the lower end to middle of the American. At this point its going to take some work just to get to the middle of the pack.

I would take Dooley back in a heartbeat. Dude brought toughness to Ruston, something that this town had never seen and it has lead to great things since. TM is doing a fine job as the AD but Dooley would have us in the national spotlight in all sports if he was the AD. As far as being the head football coach it would be tough to watch because he was very conservative, but I can guarantee we would be in bowl games each and every year.

IMO, Dooley was the right man at the time to be AD. We needed that toughness back then. But with Dr Guice at the helm I think TMac is a better choice.

Plus the chink in Dooley's armor (failure at Tenn.) would prevent him from being received the same.

The power people would no long be in awe of precious.

He was a fantastic AD but not such a great coach with the SEC-lite. If he'd remained, we would have more exposure, yes, but probably not able to hang with many big teams (which is what Dykes eventually brought).
