Hmmmm
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
I assume the new head coach wants it done...I am not a fan of turf, but Coach Goff is the man now. Although I really do like the big logo

Looked it up, they are called home plate halos.
According this site, "they are a wise investment: artificial turf halos save you time and money by protecting the area around home plate from the wear and tear caused by batting practice and portable batting cage removal. The heavy-duty design is also steel-spike-proof, which prevents tears and abrasions. Plus, halos are also helpful for drainage." - Link

It will be an incentive to get the grass looking really full and green, or else it will contrast badly.

The "dirt" colored turf is a little bold in my opinion, but you have to keep in mind the colors will fade some, and I think the green part with the logo will look just fine.
Beautiful, needed and will be an asset.
Is this the field/home plate area for which you're nostalgic?

The area around home plate looked absolutely horrible and it has for a while. I'm not loving the replacement at this moment, except for the logo--but with some weathering and settling in, I'll take it over what we had.
Love it!
Not nostalgic and not against facility improvements, but the logos had been redone since that pic in your link. Just not a fan of how they did this. The reddish plastic turf they put in isn't aligned with the dirt, and the red-orange plastic coloring is way different from the tan dirt coloring. That's the worst part about it. There's also a difference between the green plastic and the green grass. It just looks really fake, especially with that plastic "dirt." Maybe our field will get better over time, and maybe I should wait to reserve judgment until opening day. But what Auburn did with just the circular area looks MUCH better than what we are doing right now. I don't get covering what appears to be a third of the field from that vantage point with plastic turf. It's looks like they wanted to put in synthetic turf over the entire field but didn't have enough money.
