    Severe weather outbreak - 10/13/2014

About to hit the fan up there guys ... High winds look like the predominant risk thus that is what I am highlighting here. There is a significant risk of tornadoes as well from the extreme northeast Louisiana towards the eastern Arkansas and Memphis areas. Make a point to stay informed. The line produced some hurricane force gusts in Oklahoma last night.

SPC dropped the "significant" hatched area for the tornado risk but there have been reports of high winds in NW LA so I suspect it isn't exactly a fun line.

Green Clinic wouldn't let my dad and others leave because of tornado warning, rain coming down hard, high winds.

    Mostly cloudy right now.

Severe thunderstorm warnings, but not for Lincoln Parish. Tornado "watch".

I understand they turn on the sirens if the wind blows hard. Not very smart.

Stoooooooopid sirens! another waste of taxpayer dollars.

Everyone, and their brother, knows about the severe weather "alert" 24-48 hours in advance on their phone (apps). Even know, to the minute, when the storm will hit.

I bet Jindal had something to do with this...even though it actually predates his taking office as Gov-nor. Doesn't matter! he was getting kickbacks before that. His brother-in-law probably owns the siren company and we tax payers pay $MILLIONs for devices that cost $345/each. Oh, and that $500 creosote pole it's mounted on.

SPC just increased the tornado progs (15% of a tornado passing within 25 miles of a given point which is getting on the higher end) ... Two warnings one with a reported funnel cloud for northeast Louisiana.

Harper lost part of the roof. Don't know how much.

It was bad here in Ruston for a while. I've got power back now at my house and am told campus power is restored. The traffic lights were out during the worst of the storm as well - never seen that here before (society did not collapse, everyone just "payed attention").

I posted this around 11:15. At that time what I posted was were we stood according to Doppler. I walked down to go to lunch about 15 minutes later and it hit. No warnings for Ouachita Parish of any kind at that time. They keep saying "straight line winds", but I don't think straight line winds twist tree tops and blow in a circular motion. Our weather people dropped the ball on this deal.

Thank goodness it never got much more than tree top high. It has done some SERIOUS damage. You were one of the few on this.
