Ok I may get blasted for saying this, but what fans/exposure are we getting playing these 11am games that makes a tangible difference on our program? Does John Doe watching the game for 10 minutes before switching to Gameday or whatever buy a season ticket, or is he the LTAC member or does he even buy a hat? Does playing on these lesser watched channels (even if they are widely available they are lesser watched) really equate to more fans?
No.... Having one 11am game is unfortunate but acceptable. Two is unacceptable, but possibly tolerable. Three is downright ridiculous and is doing nothing good for our school or program. Students will be sleepy or not there. Bulldog village will be dead. Tailgating (which is my main draw coming up from Houston) will be non existent.
Now for the response that we should be past people worrying about this type of thing. I wish we were. I will be there regardless, but a lot of people won't be there.
The most tangible benefit of playing at 11 a.m. is that it allows us to be a member of C-USA. This is something Tech has no control over (unlike our twitter account) so there's really nothing we can do about it. The diehards and students just have to suck it up, show up, and do our best to make the most of the game day experience.
I think it's also safe to say that Saturday 11 a.m. games are a lot better for you than would be a Tuesday or Wednesday night game like they have to play in the MAC and Belch.
These TV games allow many Tech supporters to stay connected to the university. There are a lot of Tech alumni and fans who are unable to make the trip to Aillet Stadium for various reasons (distance, elderly, pregnant, conflicts, financial, responsibilities, work, grad school, wedding, children's activities, life, etc.), and FSN is the only way they can watch the Bulldogs.
Then there's the casual fan who will choose to watch on TV for free before they start paying money to go to games. Remember these games are a relatively expensive entertainment investment, especially for a family that has to travel a decent distance to the game. How much gas money are you spending round trip from Houston times five games for the season? Single game tickets for a family of five on the west side? $35 + $35 + $18 + $18 + $18 + $10 processing fee = $134 in tickets for one game. Maybe they get sucked in to paying another $10 to park. Maybe they also feel like they have to buy new game day attire and concessions. Their alternative is taking care of their yard work Saturday morning, ordering a pizza, watching the Tech game on their large HD TV, and the game finishing just in time to watch the 2:30 SEC Game of the Week on CBS. It's also probably safe to say that for someone like you coming from Houston, a Tech home football game probably consumes your entire weekend.
Also, TV is a very important recruiting tool.

Is this game Homecoming? We will miss out on a lot of folks who make the trip once a year for Homecoming that won't even try to be here for an 11:00 kickoff.
We may lose a few locals who have children activity conflicts. Most of the out of town folks had reservations already and it shouldn't matter if the game is 11:00 or the normal 3:00. This really works out better for those who drive from 3 to 4 hours unless they are determined to sleep in. How can anybody sleep in on a football Saturday?

...game day experience? There is no time for a game day experience, there is only time to get to the game and go into the game and hopefully enjoy the game. Take away the "diehards and students" how many people will you have? I agree one game @ 11:00 is not fun but it's part of who we all are in college football these days. but if we end up with 3 of 5 home games at 11, you are going to start losing some of those diehards who have put money and a lot of time to turn the parking lot of JAS into the game day experience. They are the game day experience and will continue to be the heart of it.
Wow. You just convinced me that I'm foolish for making the drive to Ruston every week!
J/K of course. But everything you just said is TRUE. That's why I want things clicking (concessions, Dawgzilla, parking, etc...) when I get to JAS. I want to spend quality time with family, friends, other Tech alumni, and of course, our DAWGS. It's worth it.
Will our atheltic dept do anything different to get fans in the stand for these early day games?
