The top ten things you didn't know about Southern Miss
Unlike that group of football players from San Antonio better known as Coker’s Criminals, I have a ton of respect for the University of Southern Mississippi. The two schools have a renewed rivalry dating back to the 1930s when both schools were in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Gulf States Conference, and now Conference USA. Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss have legendary quarterbacks (Terry Bradshaw and Brett Favre) and punters (Ryan Allen and Ray Guy). The men’s basketball programs have had hard-nosed battles the last couple of seasons in the NIT and in conference play. Both schools know what it’s like to be constantly overshadowed by larger, better-known schools in their respective states (Louisiana Tech is overshadowed by LSU, Southern Miss has Ole Miss and Mississippi State…especially this year).

Being a Teddy Allen humor fan, I was drawn to this one...
7. The name of Southern Miss’ mascot eagle is Seymour d’Campus which is a pun on “see more (of) the campus.
This is one of my all time favorites too. Somebody please explain it to those who don't think Teddy is funny...
4. A Southern Miss cheerleader once suffered a broken finger at a football game when a poorly-thrown football hit her in the nose.
