Who hired "whom?"

Now the beat writers discuss the "rivalry" angle:
Isabella asks the USM writer--
1. Skip Holtz always likes to talk about rivalries and what they mean. Todd Monken seemed to shy away from that notion earlier this week. Is this 'Rivalry in Dixie' overblown and what do you think the USM fan base feels about it?
JM: Yeah, most people around here have a hard time getting up for this game. Until last year, it wasn't even a conference game, and for the most part, Southern Miss has dominated the series. Now that it's a league game, and a divisional league game at that, it ought to mean more to the Southern Miss fan base. But I can't blame them for how they've felt about it up to this point.

- Southern Miss dominated the series from 1935 to 1967. (20-6)
- Since 1968, Southern Miss only leads it 11-8. "Rivalry in Dixie" was coined in 1976.
- Out of the 19 games since 1968, 10 games have been within 10 points. (We blew them out 5 times and they blew us out 4 times).
This isn't a renewed rivalry yet, but it probably will become one again since we are playing each other again and the game matters again. It's natural.
It is a natural rivalry. I respect them too, which makes it even better. From what I have seen and heard from their fans, they respect us too. It will grow. I think Monken (and some of our own fans) don't know the facts that you just gave. They may have dominated for a while, but they haven't in the later years. His remarks actually make me want to beat them even more now. I would post that (his remarks) on our locker room wall.
