understand your point but no way it will be worse than 2012. We had top 20 ranking, incredible Texas A M game and Orange Bowl "dream", reps there .. add the bowl fiasco and leading nation in offense. We were the USA Today poster child for small college America coming off banner Year ( TCU Poinsetta bowl). Dykes leveraged to 15 million contract. This season were low expectations and worst case we in tie with Rice 6-2 cusa and guaranteed a winning season. 7-5 , bowl game is how we will remember it -- win a bowl and have solid memories. Do not buy this is any where close to 2012 -- will live with me forever-- no bowl-coaching wanting to bail asap and fell off cliff ...
this transitional team beat Rice --have top 10 passing yardage qb in college history and a group of seniors who were winners. I am not ashamed to have lost to OD, they were exactly like the Tech teams I grew up with. Good qb, solid receivers and played their heart out. We beat Alabama twicw, Mississippi, Miss State-- do I think thier fans felt we were beneath them-- of course I do -- but we deserve respect for what we did. I respect everything I have seen about the OD program , coaches and fans. We lost , I hope they win again next week and go to bowl. They are us from years ago
But it is - 2012 bowl situation HAD NOTHING to do with the performance on the field, everyone knew that schedule as back loaded, even though they lost the two games to top 25 teams (one in OT)...
Everyone also knew Dykes was gone mid-way through the year, yet they kept winning
The only thing that really taints the 2012 season in my book was the admin's failure to reward that team with a bowl regardless of the opponent
If they lose Saturday - this meltdown is totally on the staff, no one else, it was basically there for the taking

Phil - you need to go back and watch the ballgame
The scared, deer in the headlights looks that came from our sideline says it all
They literally crapped in their pants and they knew it
I hope they come out and win Saturday, but I'm not expecting it
I have nothing against ODU and their program, but TECH gave that gave away time and time again Saturday - they gave us FOUR turnovers and we were still too ill prepared to make them pay

When the Tech-New Mexico State game started, it was to clinch a share of the WAC Title since Nevada & Tech still had only one loss each. When we found out that Nevada lost to Utah State during the Tech game that afternoon, then the Tech game was for a chance to win the outright WAC Title.
2 of them were like punts. The first one was on our 30 and that's when Taylor fumbled it right back to them (but that was a good play by ODU knocking the ball out, imo). We scored 7 off the 2nd one. We gave the 3rd one right back to them (Sokol forced a throw into coverage). The 4th one was at our 5 yard line with 28 seconds left in the game. The third one was the crucial one... should've won the game there.
Our fans may be apathetic, but they are not ignorant. The crowd size will indicate the rank of the Rice game. Beautiful weather predicted and I bet we have less than we had for NMSU in the rain.
Our fans are tired. This team has worn them out with the highs and lows all season.
Most teams don't have a significant final home game and most will still show up since there are only 6 home games a year. We are playing for a divisional championship with only 5 home games and our fans are too worn out to show up? That's pathetic. We should consider dropping to Div 3 if we don't want to support our team.
Our 10K to 12K core fans will be there. We will be missing 5K students. 15K to 17K would be a decent crowd all things considered.
