Sent this to Dr. Guice, received a nice response the same day, basically stating Dr. Napper is leading a group to prepare for these "competitions"; said that these and others like them usually involve a consortia of universities and that he's presented to the BoR recently what we "the states research universities" are doing to compete for these. Glad to see our President is helping lead the Louisiana Research Universities, means Tech should be well positioned to get some of these and future research investments.

Tech needs to lead the charge to build Ruston/Lincoln Parish into an innovative/industrial center. Then both the region, and the university, can grow together. Screw S'port/Bossier. Focus on Ruston!

    Agreed,

There's lot of industries within a 1 hr radius from Ruston already utilizing Tech's talent and services. We grow, they grow.

    Example:
    El Dorado - Murphy Oils
    Monroe - CenturyLink
    Shreveport - plenty to name

Industrial may be a little harder, as I don't think we have the necessary infrastructure or proximity to raw materials in North Louisiana to support major industrial/chemical. I think we need to really focus on the innovation and developing a major artery to the industry in S. Louisiana (Mississippi River Chemical Plants, Lake Charles Plants, Lafayette-Morgan City Oil/Gas).

Light manufacturing (industrial) type of companies. Not necessarily heavy industry. You are right about the location. Especially, lacking a major river.

But high tech, electronics, and those in the plastics industry are doable. And if not actual production, perhaps assembly plants. That'll work.
