Here are current salaries & my proposed Salaries - Raise the funds through increased LTAC contributions!!!

We are currently 8th* in total assistant salary in C-USA (* Rice not required to disclose salaries & behind UAB)
$170,000 Increase would put us at the top of this year's list. So I say let's increase it by at least $200,000 (200 additional fans contributing $1000 to LTAC or more from current boosters)

Coach Current Salary (USA Today) Increase Proposed
    Tony Petersen $200,000 $30,000 $230,000 15%
    Manny Diaz $180,000 $50,000 $230,000 28%
    Matt Moore (Replacement) $130,000 $20,000 $150,000 15%
    Oscar Giles $100,000 $15,625 $115,625 16%
    Ronnie Bradford $90,000 $15,625 $105,625 17%
    Jabbar Juluke $84,700 $15,300 $100,000 18%
    Blake Baker $75,000 $18,750 $83,750 25%
    Joe Sloan $70,000 $17,500 $92,500 25%
    Tim Rattay $70,000 $17,500 $92,500 25%
    total $999,700 $200,300 $1,200,000 20%

I like the idea, but I think I'd rather have us give more moderate raises and spring for a dedicated special teams coordinator first. FYI, the proposed values don't match the increase for Baker, Sloan, and Rattay on your spreadsheet.

We are at the maximum number of assistant coaches allowed by the NCAA. Who do you recommended cutting to have a dedicated special teams coordinator?

11? I either remember hearing this somewhere or am making up a false memory. Not entirely sure.

    Edit: Found it! http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-fo...tball-coaches/

    Re: Football Assistants Pay

Here's what I think we should do:

    Coach Current Salary (USA Today)
    Increase My Proposed
    Tony Petersen $200,000 $75,000 $275,000 38%
    Manny Diaz
    $180,000 145,000
    $325,000 81%
    Matt Moore (Replacement) $130,000 $20,000 $150,000 15%
    Oscar Giles $100,000 $50,000 $150,000 50%
    Ronnie Bradford $90,000 $50,000 $140,000 56%
    Jabbar Juluke $84,700 $45,300 $130,000 53%
    Blake Baker $75,000 $40,000 $115,000 53%
    Joe Sloan $70,000 $40,000 $110,000 57%
    Tim Rattay $70,000 $40,000 $110,000 57%
    total $999,700 $505,300 $1,505,000 50%

This MAY help us keep Diaz, who was really the heart and soul of this year's team.

I'm not even sure Tony Peterson is carrying all the offensive responsibility right now (with Holtz announcing that he is calling plays now), so total compensation of 275K for Petersen seems fair.

This is the price of winning: A $505K increase for next year. Frankly, I think we're getting off cheap. And between our bowl revenue, our increased rev from the TV contract, and our increased LTAC support, we should be able to support this increase. BTW, I would NOT give Holtz an increase this year, simply because I think the market dictates that we don't have to.

I'm all for that! I definitely want our all of our coaches above $100,000. I agree that keeping Manny Diaz should be our #1 priority. Boise is the top G5 for paying assistant coaches - I hope we can reach that number soon - $2,052,650.

It all goes back to "fans in the stands" and our alumni donations...we really have to get sellouts and for the city of Ruston to understand that game day is an Event - not just another football game ! There's a lot of things the school is taking for granted. The BOP really has to up their game as well and start some traditions to make them standout...Concessions need to up their game as well...

That 505K increase in salaries is equivalent to one half of the Oklahoma game.

Also, body bag game guarantees will be increasing a lot now that FCS schools have gone out of favor. The playoff committee doesn't want to see FCS schools on P5 schedules going forward. That means there will be a run on G5 schools like LA Tech for scheduling, because we improve the strength of any P5's schedule.

The highest paid public employee in 27 states is a football coach.

When asked which 27 states they were, the answer was: the ones with good football teams

I'd like to utilize our football facility similar to way it's done at Marshall and Old Dominion. . . . butt$ in the $eat$.

Huntington, WVa, and Norfolk, Va. have their act together. (I crave the Marshall stadium setting almost as much as SMU).

If we did, we can do more than just enhance the salaries of our very capable assistant coaches (and our strength and conditioning coach).

You guys are crazy. A small increase is 10% not 50% plus. Our coaches are not underpaid. Do you really think raising coaching salaries will keep our best coaches? A big or rich school can get anyone they want on our staff. Instead of the massive increase make it gradual so the longer than stay the more they make. I don't want to lose any of the coaches but any increase should be tied to a future year not immediate. If we could sign Diaz to a four year contract with raises each year of 10, then 20, 30, and finally 100k. He will be making 340k in the 4th. This would be an incentive to stay.

I see both sides of this as valid. In my job, a modest pay increase to cover cost of living hikes and a growing family are a must. However, pay increases for my hourly folks and budget increases for upgrades and repairs to my facility, equipment, and supplies are just a crucial. People who determine these allocations have my respect, at my office and anywhere. Tough job.

Sorry cscollis, but a 10K or 20K raise is laughable. Diaz deserves to earn more NOW, not 4 years from now. And this is where his market value is for us. I hate to think where we would have been this year without Diaz. IMO, it's still a bargain.

Understand, the objective will be to keep Diaz happy enough so that he doesn't feel like he HAS to leave right now to further his career. I agree that we'll never keep him away from the "big schools" that really want him....but paying him well in Ruston might prevent him from leaving for a job in Tulsa or Houston, etc....
