Best Year Since Switching to D1-A?

I interpreted this thread to ask if this was LA Tech's "Best Year" (see the title of thread), not necessarily the "best team". Somehow, most of you guys spun it into a "best team" discussion.

I think we've had several offenses over the years that were better than this 2014 version. That said, this 2014 defense ranks right up there with our very best defense ever, the 1992 team. But more importantly, this 2014 team may have exceeded expectations better than any LA Tech team in our Div 1A history. Before this season, the expectations for this team --and Skip Holtz-- were very low. But both Holtz and the 2014 team delivered a season that we will all remember for perhaps the rest of our lives. Well done.

I don't think it was our best. But it was a great year and I am happy. I also can say I have been in the stands to witness our three bowl victories and one very exciting tie.

No, it was before there was 1AA. We played two seasons as Division 1 before moving down to 1AA

1975-1977 NCAA Division I
1978-1981 NCAA Division I-A
1982-1988 NCAA Division I-AA
1989-20XX NCAA Division I-A/Division I FBS

1975-1977 counts as FBS for NCAA record purposes.

Best year is also a matter of opinion. I like 2012 better.

I do like how this season ended, better! Which is a big Duh! But overall, 2012, 9-3 with only three close losses to three ranked teams trumps 9-5 which included a loss to lowly NSU.

Maybe next year we can set a new standard, something on par with winning CUSA and being ranked.

I liked 2012 better too or 1999. The NSU loss knocks it down the list but I agree that this team probably exceeded expectations more than any other since 88.
