    Pre-game skirmish at HOD

Anybody see what sparked the little pre-game confrontation between some of the Illinois players and our Bulldogs as we left the field after warming up? I just caught the end with some Illinois players over at our sideline jawing and juking. Seems like some Illinois coaches were there maintaining order but I didn't have a good view.

I noticed lots of prancing and juking and showboating on their sideline whenever they made a good play too. Glad I didn't have to watch it after the game if they'd prevailed.

Caseydawg observed that it seems to go with orange-and-blue team colors: UTSA,UTEP, Illinois. Maybe we have learned from experiencing UTSA and UTEP to keep things under control and get payback by WINNING ON THE FIELD. So proud of our team Friday: TOUGH, HARDNOSED, DISCIPLINED.

They had one player in particular who was very animated in his trash talking of our guys as they were leaving the field after warm ups. I dont think anything caused it.

Thanks. Some around me were commenting some that we just seemed not to get into any tit-for-tat like we did earlier in the season. We just outplayed them. I was proud of us.

It was NOT one-sided. We had some seniors just as animated, but the Yankees couldn't relate to our accents.

I posted about about the jawing in warm ups in the game thread. When we left the field they had a couple who went over and had to be held back. Game was getting chippy

I'm rewatching the game. It looks like #3 was the first to gouge at Dixon's eyes when he was down. He had to come out. I know he was livid when it happened again in the second half.

I noticed most of the Ill skill players wore visors. Is eye gouging part of BthuG football?

It's always a DB that causes this stuff. They all think they are Deon Sanders.

I remember a Florida LB getting caught on camera trying to poke a player in the eyes when Tebow was the QB at Florida. When asked what he thought about it Tebow said "it was just part of the game". It's definitely not part of any game that I know. I noticed that Dixon had a pretty good cut under his eye after the game. Any player that tries to poke another player's eyes out should be banned from the game permanently.

I agree, Don. The NCAA has been cracking down on a lot of hits and stuff the last few years. I don't know why they wouldn't take "eye gouging" just as seriously.

Do you really think the Big Ten is a thuggish conference?

Being so rare, it's not a "problem" to them.

The main reason people wear visors is to protect against gouging. It was a misting drizzle during the game and a visor was a problem to keep clean.
