If anyone hasn't actually read this linked document in its entirety, you should...particularly the reasons for replacement. Quite honestly, this one is enough reason for it: "Due to the 16-story height of the building, the city cannot maintainadequate fire protection."
This will be a fantastic and necessary upgrade to the campus and student life...ideas of which are detailed in the document...which will far outweigh any trivial sentimental loss of the current tower.
As an aside...I like the characterization of the 2004 Hale Hall demolition all the way to the foundation and complete rebuild as a "renovation."

Along with all the campus improvement the aviation department is hoping to receive around five new Cessna 172s G1000s by the summer.
The USDA oversees rural development and gives out millions in grants every year for infrastructure. Then they make you spend tens of thousands on compliance, political correctness, and equal opportunity. I replaced an elevator once with grant money from the USDA. I've also renovated hospitals and bought software systems with USDA money. None of those dollars were spent on cows.
