I have posted that from day one-- 1 million a yr coach (combined) -- my biggest compliment to him is how he is recruiting for future of Tech ... when he decides to move on we will be a program loaded with talent..

Any idea how things work if Holtz goes somewhere before the 2017 season. I'm assuming USF is on the hook until then no matter what, but who knows. It seems there is a coach somewhere that is not coaching at the moment, but is drawing money from two schools from which he was fired. I can't remember the name though.

I would get an up and comer. I think this is Marshall's DC in waiting. Great success at FCS & his LB's played lights out this year.

Fuller's Direction Should Aid Herd Linebackers

    The Word on the Herd-March 9, 2013

Fuller was named Linebackers Coach in February of 2013.
Fuller comes to Huntington after four seasons as Chattanooga's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
In 2012, Fuller's defense ranked in the top 18 in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in nearly every category, including first down defense (6th, 15.7 per game), total defense (10th, 307.91), pass defense (12th, 166.0) and scoring defense (18th, 20.4).
In 2011, UTC led the Southern Conference in total defense (305.3 yds/game), scoring defense (19.7 ppg), pass efficiency defense (100.15), pass defense (140.8 yds/game), turnover margin (+9), fumbles recovered (14), opponent third-down conversion (33%) and opponent fourth down conversion (38%) in 2011.
The Mocs ranked in the top 20 in the nation in sacks and passing defense in 2009 and third in the SoCon in rushing defense in 2010. UTC was also in the top 20 in the nation with 14 fumbles recovered in 2010.
In four seasons, Fuller helped guide 13 defensive players to All-Southern Conference honors, including two-time All-American linebacker Wes Dothard and All-American defensive end and Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year Davis Tull. He also mentored 2010 SoCon Freshman of the Year Kadeem Wise and 2009 SoCon Defensive Player of the Year and All-American Josh Beard. Cornerback Buster Skrine became the first Moc drafted since 2001 when he was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris signed a free-agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals and saw action during the 2012 regular season and playoffs.
Prior to his stint at UTC, Fuller was the head coach for one season at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. He worked with Coach Russ Huesman when they were both at Richmond from 2005-07. There, he helped the Spiders to back-to-back conference championships and appearances in the FCS playoffs.
Fuller began his coaching career as a linebackers coach at WPI (1998). He also coached at Wagner College (1999-04), where he was promoted to co-defensive coordinator in 2004.
As a collegian, Fuller was a four-year letter winner at Sacred Heart University. He earned Football Gazette All-American honors as a linebacker in 1996 and served as team captain in 1997. A Tewksbury, Mass., native, he played varsity football at Tewksbury High. Fuller earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology in 1998. In addition, he earned a master's in secondary education in 2001 from Wagner. He and his wife, Hope, have two sons, Jack and Aidan.

With Marc Trestman fired from the Chicago Bears, Reggie Herring will probably be available.

That would be Charlie Weis, Notre Dame still owes him $2M in 2015 and Kansas owes him 2.5M in 2015 and 2.5M in 2016 in buyout payments.
Coach Holtz will get his payments from USF no matter what, it should be noted his buyout with Tech dropped from $1M to $500K after the 2014 season.

Sale, a Neville graduate who played at LSU, was rumored to be LSU's new OL coach before this past season but for one reason or another (I don't know the inside story) it didn't happen. With his ties to NE Louisiana, he should be a really good addition to our staff.

I believe Holtz will look for defensive co-ordinator with similar philosophy as Diaz -- and passion -- I would hope our defense is not "revamped" by some new guru

We had a defense in 2014, that much I know. No, it wasn't the best D we've ever had, but in these days and times of college football, where even Saban's Bama defenses struggle against high-octane schemes, I'd say we did pretty damn good. Led the nation in take-aways, 40. Not bad.

And, especially considering Diaz had just one year. Just think if he had stayed and could have recruited players to fit his scheme. Whoa!

Yep, we had an opportunistic defense this year, and our offense seemed to feed off it. The offense stepped it up a notch after the defense got the ball for them.

In most games they did, but not in 3 of our losses.
