LaTech DFW band kids to the Tech band

Tech is trying to recruit Texas kids, so here is an idea. Make it worth while for some Texas high school band kids to come to Tech. This will build the Tech band program, increase school enrollment, improve the band.. The target market is huge, yet should be easy to communicate with. There is 150 to 300 band kids in 100's of high schools in Texas. They don't have to become music majors, just help us improve the band and commit to play at the games. Once it becomes a way to help them pay for school via a little scholarship money and kids get the word out to each other that they are "going to LaTech", we can have a great pipeline of kids for the band program and may add 500 students, or so. Once it becomes a cool thing to do, and the band is as large as we need,we can reduce scholarship funds if need be.

The good thing is that since we are looking to grow enrollment, the marginal cost of each additional student is probably low enough that we could use incentives like that to increase enrollment in a targeted manner. Grow the band, grow the university. It's a win/win.

It was like that when I was in the BOP. The good thing about getting out of state students in the band is retention. Most stay in band for 4 yrs due to the out-of-state fee waiver.

Yes and Yes, crazy thing is I believe the OoS Waiver goes against the band budget; I remember JRob was pretty happy when we realized I wasn't getting the Child of Alumni auto in-state tuition and he could take my Fee Waiver off.

Doesn't Tech already have out-state fee waiver for Texas students?

Thought they did, too. If they bring a barrel of oil to Louisiana they can get more, huh?

Out-of-State tuition rates are waived if test scores are at a certain level.

Speaking of the band, expect some interesting band news to be announced by Dr. Guice.
