Trying something new is fine. It would actually work too- if they hand out the correct color shirts as people sit down. Other than that it will be hit or miss.

Yep. Make a bunch of shirts like they do for the red and white out games, but instead of handing them out at the door, drape them over the seats in the correct section. That's the only way I see this working as planned. It's a nice idea though. I just want to see proper execution.
